Reasons to come "down South".

Scotty has engaged a beta version of a calendar to share events in Southern Illinois. If you are interested in submitting an event, send it via email

The calendar feature has been very popular in the past and thanks to the open source community, many useful capabilities can make raising southern Illinois on the list of all those seeking an affordable road trip family adventure.

As of the 19th of March, there is a functional events calendar which registered users can post events on. Right now yours truly, the webmaster, is the only registered user. Again, if you have an event, send it to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it I will be entering events over the next few weeks. I will post any interesting event here, but will prioritize the family friendly ones in how they are listed and featured. There will be a channel designed for businesses and entertainment venues.

Please email me if you are interested in partnering with this website. If you are a business in southern Illinois, I will rotate your banner on a page for as little as $5.00 a month and list a detailed link with business description in a search enabled services database.

Southern Illinois is a nice place and my only mission with this website is to shine some light on our semi-discovered resource for fun. Community support, whether it is inexpensive advertising or submitting events, will help this site aggressively market Southern Illinois as a place to visit and maybe even come back, buy a house, build a business and grow our community.

Southern Illinois is rich in history and resources. The region was part of the wild frontier of both. Encouraging visitors gives us an opportunity to encourage business. Southern Illinois is also an important economic cog in the wheel of the United States. Many don't know the areas rich energy production history and remaining easily accessible reservoir of oil. The region also possesses vast coal reserves whose value as a domestic energy supply has been bolstered by new, clean burn technology. There is history, great scenery, outstanding parks, beautiful lakes and many wonderful hosts awaiting in Southern Illinois. Keep American first when you think of escaping for a day or a month, come on "down South" and explore Southern Illinois.
